Controller

Farnell Packaging Limited (FPL) manufactures and distributes leading-edge flexible packaging materials and provides guidance with related equipment solutions. Nearly two-thirds of FPL packaging is used in the food industry with the balance used in markets for textile, tissue, diapers, paper, industrial and promotions. Our products are distributed globally and can be found on every grocery store aisle.

The Controller is responsible for applying accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.

Accounting Job Duties

  • Assists the CFO with various daily, monthly, and yearly departmental functions including bank reconciliations, general ledger maintenance and analysis, month-end closing procedures, reports and audits.  
  • Customer rebate preparation, review and analysis.
  • Prepare GST/HST returns and remittances
  • Prepares Statistics Canada monthly survey of manufacturing
  • Oversees the daily operations of accounts receivable.
  • Oversee daily Job Costing including completion of jobs
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting package
  • Assists the Chief Financial Officer with special projects.

Credit Job Duties

  • Coordinate the effective collection of current and delinquent receivables.
  • Manage relationships with clients in order to reduce exposure to bad debts.
  • Review customer accounts on a regular basis to minimize credit risk.
  • Process credit applications.
  • Approve custom and stock orders for production and/ or shipment.
  • Work with Area Managers to improve credit quality and cash flow.

Project Specific Tasks and Other Duties

  • Assists various departments with process review, information management, and reporting needs.
  • Prepares quarterly and yearly sales analysis for various customers as required.
  • Assists Quality Department with customer complaint issues.
  • Accounting Department liaison for Radius ERP software system.
  • Supports planetary sustainability efforts, e.g. energy conservation (lights off, machines off when not in use, judicious use of heating and cooling, being innovative as we improve our processes, etc.)

Education/Training

  • Accounting degree or diploma, CPA considered an asset
  • Advanced Computer Skills
  • Experience in Manufacturing ERP systems an asset
  • Five (5) years demonstrated knowledge of basic accounting practices, principles and procedures

Working Conditions

  • Eight (8) hour shifts; may also work additional or flexible hours based on changing project or internal/ external customer demand.
  • Required to sit for long periods of time performing computer work
  • May be required to climb several flights of stairs
  • May be required to work flexible hours based on production requirements
  • Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm
